How much do you get paid for drill in the National Guard?

Most pay that members of the armed forces receive is considered taxable income by the Internal Revenue Service, including the pay you receive for your monthly drill. Other taxable forms of income for reservists also include bonuses, re-enlistment pay or special pay.

Compensation for drill is monthly Drill Pay, equal to one day's active duty base pay for each drill period. There are four drill periods in one weekend drill. For training events longer than one weekend, Guard/Reserve members receive prorated Basic Pay.

The remaining bonus amount will be paid in annual increments of up to $10,000 a year until the bonus is paid in full. Enlistment bonuses totaling less than $10,000 are paid in one lump sum upon successful completion of initial entry training.

Guardsmen and reservists who are entitled to a housing allowance will receive a special BAH anytime they're on active duty for less than 30 days. If they are on active duty for 30 days or more, they'll receive the full housing allowance rate (the same as active duty).

The U.S. Army Reserve is for those that want to make a difference performing critical Army jobs while serving part time, close to home, while gaining an edge in their civilian careers. Soldiers earn regular paychecks for monthly unit training and annual field training exercises.
