Considering this, what is a CRT type TV?
A CRT TV is a type of CRT television that was most widely used back before the invention of the flat screen television. CRT stands for cathode ray tube. There are actually a number of different types of cathode ray tubes, but they all are similar in many ways.
Beside above, are CRT TVs still made? In the global rush to junk these 20th Century TVs in favour of slim, HD-ready LCD and plasma displays, you'd think that the classic, bulky CRT is all but obsolete. But you'd be wrong. While the big TV manufacturers have stopped making their own CRT-based sets, some are still selling them.
Just so, how do I know if I have a CRT TV?
So in case you want to know if you have a tube TV even before you call, there are a few key indicators:
- If you knock on the front, it's a hard glass. It doesn't “give a little” like a flat-screen plasma would.
- Does it have a deep back on it? Likely it's a tube/CRT.
- Is it a style that you could hang on the wall?
Are CRT TVs dangerous?
Risks. The CRT is one of the most dangerous pieces of equipment you'll repair. The vacuum tube in a CRT can implode if it is broken or punctured. The surrounding air will rush violently into the unsealed vacuum in the CRT, spraying broken glass in every direction.
