Keeping this in consideration, what is a deep strip foundation used for?
Deep Strip foundations are the least expensive and are used when ground conditions are good. A concrete strip, sometimes reinforced with steel mesh, supports the walls. The trench depth is variable but in most cases should be at least 1m with a width of 600mm.
Similarly, when were strip foundations first used? In the late 1940s and throughout the 1950s, most new houses were built on strip foundations, although raft foundations remained popular.
Beside above, what is a wide strip?
A wide strip foundation is one wider than about 750mm or so. It can be used where the ground is a material with a low bearing capacity. The Building Regulations require that the foundation thickness is at least equal to the projection. In a wide foundation this would mean a very thick concrete strip.
How wide do Strip foundations need to be?
450mm wide
