Keeping this in consideration, why does my temperature gauge go up when my AC is on?
As the AC system moves refrigerant to the condenser, the engine fan blows over the condenser fins to regulate temperature. If the fins are clogged, the condenser temperature will rise. Another reason the engine can overheat could be when the radiator and or the condenser tubes get clogged over time.
Also, does air conditioning make your car run hotter? Automotive air conditioning (AC) will cause the engine to run hotter in the summer because it creates more heat in the engine compartment and there will be more strain on the engine to operate the AC compressor. Every time it cycles on it creates more strain on the engine and in turn will create heat.
Also Know, can a bad AC compressor cause a car to overheat?
A car AC compressor can cause overheating of the car engine. This can happen for a number of reasons, the most common of them being that the cooling system is faulty. If the compressor has seized up then the fan belt may not be moving freely, which in turn would affect the cooling system.
Why does my car run worse when the AC is on?
When the engine is put under a load by the AC system, the car's computer automatically attempts to compensate for that by adjusting the idle. If there is carbon buildup within any part of the system, including the idle air control valve, throttle body, or possibly even the EGR valve, it can cause surging.
